Tasting Notes: Evo's Coffee Lounge

Cuisine and scene: When the weather is fine, one of Ashland's most inviting patios beckons on the edge of downtown across Gresham Street from the library. Wide awnings, umbrella-topped tables and artistically rendered pillars and railings adorn Evo's expansive decks and patios. Inside, soaring ceilings, cement floors and metal fittings and furnishings under ceiling fans keep the coffeehouse cool. Artworks, including an elaborate glass chandelier, add interest to the industrial aesthetic that gets a dash of dorm-room kitsch from strings of Christmas lights.

Recommended: Anything on the small but varied breakfast menu from oatmeal to eggs, served all day, with cups of joe. Evo's food-handling earned a perfect score on its most recent Jackson County health inspection.

Alternative diets: Organic coffees; dairy alternatives include soy, rice, almond and coconut milks; vegetarian sandwich; vegan protein bar.

Beverages: Full slate of specialty coffees, smoothies and other blender drinks served in compostable cups; locally blended, loose-leaf Devi Tea; bottled juices, waters, kombucha; natural and mainstream sodas.

Price range: Breakfast $1.50 to $6.70; sandwiches, $4.99 to $6.99; baked goods 50 cents to $2.90.

Extras: Free wireless Internet, but lounging on the patio limited to two hours; old-school Mac computer available inside for Web surfing; parking in one of downtown's largest lots; accepts Visa and MasterCard.

Serving: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Info: 376 E. Main St., Ashland; 541-482-2261.
