Wine and drama at Paschal

The spring selection of short play readings at Paschal Winery will be on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets at the door are $10, but reservations are recommended. Call 840-1527 for information.

Participants can enjoy a glass of Paschal wine, sit back and relax on the patio, then experience two hours of play readings

The plays are mostly comedies: "Passing the Buck" by Jeanne Azzopardi, "Virus" by Dave Hill, excerpt from "Flower by the Road" by Michael Mish, "Friends" by Julia Sommer, "Stopgap" by Fred Tonge and "The Return of Augie Boord" by Ruth Wire.

The next deadline for short play reading submission is July 1. Send manuscripts to Michael Meyer, Artistic Director, Ashland Community Theatre P.O. Box 3284, Ashland, OR 97520.

Local dramatists in the valley have had the support of Ashland Community Theatre for two years. The theater has presented short plays that have never before had an audience, encouraging the development of new playwrights such as Cynthia Rogan, Phil Loveless and Darlene Ensor.

Dave Hill's Playwrights' Project, Oregon Stage Works' Playwrights' Unit and Ruth Wire's HayWire Writers' Workshop have also encouraged new work by local playwrights.

Artistic Director Michael Meyer has decided to gather together a group of short plays from the past two years' readings to do a full production sometime this summer called "Our Best Shorts."
