Ashland book packaging company LightSpeed Publishing released a major-market hardcover book, "Canyon of Dreams," by Harvey Kubernik, earlier this month with Sterling Publishing Co. in New York City. The book is an illustrated look back at Laurel Canyon, Calif., beginning in the 1920s. The nearly 400-page book is available at most bookstores, including Barnes & Noble, Amazon and Bloomsbury Books in Ashland.

Ashland computer company Dr. Networking plans to help with a literacy program for children in Ocho Rios, Jamaica in November. Clif Schieck, president of Dr. Networking, and several Rogue Valley volunteers will travel with Great Shape! Inc. to Jamaica and donate computer parts to the literacy program SuperKids. Founded in Ashland in 1988, Great Shape! is a nonprofit that facilitates humanitarian projects in Jamaica. The organization is looking for 10 more volunteers for the SuperKids program from Nov. 14 through 22. For more information log on to www.gsjamaica.org.
