Council considers AFN pick

The Ashland City Council will consider whether to confirm Mayor John Stromberg's pick of Robert Lloyd as the new leader of the Ashland Fiber Network.

As information technology director for the city of Ashland, Lloyd would also be charged with managing the city government's internal computer and technology systems.

The council meets at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the Ashland Civic Center Council Chambers, 1175 E. Main St.

Lloyd is the chief of information technologies for the Colorado Division of Wildlife.

In other business Tuesday night, the council will consider the process and criteria for awarding economic and cultural development grants, which are funded by the city's hotel tax.

Past grant recipients include the Ashland Film Festival, the Ashland Gallery Association and ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum.

Stromberg has proposed that the city set aside $12,500 to fund sustainability projects.

Last year, two-dozen groups competed for $157,079 in grant funds.

Other agenda items for the council include considering whether to increase the amount of money the city sets aside in reserves, and changing the classification of offenses for Ashland Municipal Court.
