Course aims to help brewers, bakers

A class is set this month to help farmers, brewers and bakers make market connections.

The Jan. 28 class is part of an Oregon State University Small Farms series known as Growing Grains on a Small Farm. It will feature a panel of bakers and brewers who will discuss local markets for grains like wheat and barley.

OSU extension agent Maud Powell will present marketing options. OSU faculty member Willie Riggs will cover the economics of raising grains. The course is a series of seven classes that span the growing season and cover all aspects of grain production, as well as marketing.

Bakery owner Garrett Furuichi of Deux Chats in Ashland helped developed the concept for the class.

The class is from 5-9 p.m. at the OSU Extension Auditorium at the Southern Oregon Research and Extension Center, 569 Hanley Road, Central Point. For more information, call 776-7371.
