Discounted season ski tickets on sale

Discounted season pass tickets for the Mt. Ashland Ski Area are on sale through Oct. 31.

During the fall season pass sale, adult season passes (for those 18 to 69 years old) are available for $399, instead of the usual price of $499; junior passes (for those 13 through 17 years old) are $349 instead of $449; and youth passes (7-12) are $199 instead of $249.

In its announcement for the sale, Mt. Ashland officials expressed optimism that the El Niño weather event expected this winter will bring high snowfall levels to the mountaintop.

During the El Niño events of 1982-83 and 1997-98, Mt. Ashland reports it had significant snowfall, 473 and 382 inches, respectively. In the last two seasons, totals have reached on 101 and 87 inches, respectively.

The Mt. Ashland Association says 190 supporters have donated $315,000 during its current Local Mountain Fund campaign. The overall goal is to raise $650,000. Proceeds help support youth education programs, upgrade ski lift ramps so very little snow will be needed to use them, repair the lodge roof and trim trails to make them safer.
