Letters To The Editor

Thankful for civil servants

As Thanksgiving 2007 approaches I want to express my deep heartfelt gratitude to those that preserve what this great country stands for: freedom. They are the Soldier, Marine, Airman, Sailor, Coast Guardsman, National Guardsman, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security, Department Of Defense, US Marshals, State Police, Highway Patrol, County Sheriff's, Fireman and local Policeman. Without their dedicated service to protect our freedoms from evil, we would have nothing. I am thankful to all of them that I can walk out of my house every day and know that they are protecting my family, friends and me from being shot at, blown up by an IED, kidnapped and beheaded, persecuted for practicing my religion, coerced by tyranny, free to speak my political beliefs without being thrown into prison, freedom to choose my political party, right to vote, live where I choose, say what I want to say. Without the freedom that they provide we will fall like all the other nations in the past that have crumbled under satanic tyranny. I want to thank all that currently serve, that served and those that gave their life for what this country stands for, freedom.

God bless them and God bless America.

Bill Richardson for president

I think Bill Richardson should be the next president of the United States. Richardson should receive the Democratic nomination. Perhaps, that has been the formula all along &

let the most popular candidates wear themselves out, then send in this fresh guy who comes in like a breath of fresh air.

First of all, Richardson is a good negotiator. That skill is vital to our country. Moreover, Richardson is the only candidate clearly able to withstand the "heat in the kitchen." This is a strong resolute quality shone locally by our own leaders agency chiefs. Richardson already has an excellent track record and he has been nominated for the Nobel Prize. He is a strong believer in imposing sanctions to effect cooperation between nations. It is not possible to picture any other candidate dealing with a 9/11-type situation. Richardson also bringss an informed perspective to Hispanic immigration issues. Furthermore, as we consider the billions of people across the globe who compete with us for the earth's fast-diminishing resources, especially water, I do believe Richardson is the sole candidate who brings experience to the presidency that we can trust.

Special thanks for book fair

The organizers and participating authors of the 2007 Southern Oregon Book Author Fair which took place on Nov. 17 in Ashland would like to thank the regional community for supporting this annual author event.

The enthusiasm that draws people like magnets to good books heartens and delights every author who was on-hand to meet the public at Southern Oregon University's Stevenson Union. Also specific thanks to sponsors SOU's English Writing/The Westwind Review, the Ashland Springs Hotel, and AshootingstarZ Production; also the participation of bestselling authors (and Ashland residents) Jahnna N. Malcolm (a.k.a. Jahnna Beecham and Malcolm Hillgartner).

See you next year!
