A Central Point man is wanted for allegedly destroying washing machines at Suds-ur-duds laundromat in Ashland to steal the coins inside.
Christopher Lee Grinnell, 33, of the 200 block of West Pine Street was charged with first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal mischief, first-degree theft and third-degree theft in Jackson County Circuit Court.
He was scheduled to be arraigned Monday but failed to appear in court. A warrant was issued for his arrest, according to court records.
On the night of Aug. 20, Grinnell destroyed several washing machines at the Ashland laundromat and took the coins inside, according to a probable cause affidavit by Ashland police.
He returned Aug. 21 in the afternoon and destroyed several more machines, police say, again taking coins from the machines.
An indictment accuses him of prying open the machines’ coin receptacles and causing more than $1,000 in damage. He’s also accused of stealing at least $1,000 in business property.
Grinnell was arrested Aug. 23 and later released from the Jackson County Jail on his own recognizance.
He was convicted of methamphetamine possession in 2015, court records show.
