Learn what to do before disaster strikes

Community members can learn to prepare for disaster at a free emergency preparedness seminar presented by Ashland Community Preparedness Coordinator Terri Eubanks from 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, at the Bellview Grange, 1050 Tolman Creek Road.

Eubanks will discuss ways Ashland residents can prepare and engage other community members in the conversation.

This presentation will cover ways to prepare for any disaster, such as how to assemble an emergency kit, how to obtain the most up-to-date information when disaster occurs, tips for evacuation, how local response teams will deal with disaster and what to do when evacuation isn’t an option.

She’ll discuss ways in which neighbors can prepare together, such as becoming Firewise certified, creating a community plan and getting CERT (community emergency response team) training, a free emergency response training program for the public.

In the case of a large disaster such as a major earthquake, it could take weeks if not months for emergency responders to get to you, officials say.
