SOU Master Plan up for final adoption

The Ashland City Council will consider whether to finalize adoption of an updated Southern Oregon University Master Plan.

The council meets at 7 tonight in the Ashland Civic Center, 1175 E. Main St.

An update of SOU's Master Plan is required every 10 years. The plan guides development for the university.

Also tonight, the council will hear an update on the ongoing creation of an economic development strategy for Ashland, and offer feedback on a proposed plan to gather public input on the strategy.

Another agenda item is considering whether to charge out-of-town people when Ashland Fire & Rescue provides emergency services after car accidents and hazardous materials spills.

The charges to people's insurance companies would help cover costs since non-residents don't pay city property taxes, according to a memo to the City Council from Fire Chief John Karns.

The fees would bring in an estimated $15,000 to $18,000 each year, the memo said.
