Amelia Grace Farber named Kiwanis student for March

The Kiwanis Club of Ashland has recognized Amelia Grace Farber as its March Student of the Month. Farber is the daughter of Lynn and Keith Farber. A senior student from the Ashland High School is honored each month during the school year.

Farber maintains a cumulative GPA of 4.0. She has received a National Honor Society award for four years and Math Honor Society award for three years. Academically, Amelia has taken a rigorous course load and performed well. She is now taking advanced placement courses in calculus, government, and literature. She is also taking biology chemistry and French III. She has competed on the Math Team against other Southern Oregon schools.

Farber has participated in a broad array of extracurricular activities during her four-year AHS career, including Ashland Key Club (two years as president), Rogue Valley Youth Ensemble (four years), AHS Drama Club (four years), Academic Scavenger Hunt (four years), Model United Nations delegate (four years), and ballroom dancing (four years). She is also on the team for the online Rogue Newspaper. She also is a musician, having competed in district and state solo vocal competitions.

Farber has been a Fresh Start counselor, participated in the Teen Theatre, and has volunteered with summer reading programs at the library. In her spare time she has written a 200,000-word fantasy novel which she is hoping to publish.

Farber is hoping to attend either St. Olaf College, Oberlin College or Lawrence College. She would like to major in music (vocal performance), with a second major in science or English.

Each student of the month receives an award certificate and a $100 savings bond. During the month of May, two of the nine monthly winners for the current school year will be further honored with a $1,000 Tommy Laird Kiwanis College Scholarship.
