AMS ranked sixth in state

Ashland Middle School is the sixth-best public middle school in the state, according to the 2017 Best Public Middle School ranking from Pittsburgh-based researcher Niche.

On a list dominated by Portland-area schools, AMS was the only school in Southern Oregon to make the top 25 rankings, which were calculated from grades based on academics, quality of teachers, quality of the district in which is resides and cultural diversity.

Lake Oswego Middle School was ranked No. 1, followed by Lakeridge Middle School in Lake Oswego, Three Rivers Charter School in West Linn, Athey Creek Middle School in Tualatin and Rosemont Ridge Middle School in West Linn.

According to the rankings, AMS has 76 percent reading proficiency and 62 percent math proficiency, received an “A” for academics, an “A” for teachers, a “B-minus” in diversity and an “A” in overall niche.
