Body of missing Oregon State student recovered

BEND, Ore. (AP) — The body of a missing Oregon State University student has been recovered from the Crooked River in Central Oregon.

Deschutes County sheriff's deputies say searchers found the body of 19-year-old Alex Thompson on Friday afternoon upstream from the area where the Beaverton teenager was last seen on April 18.

Thompson disappeared trying to cross the river while hiking at Smith Rock State Park with a group of friends from the university.

Deputies say the search had been directed downstream from that location.

But river levels have dropped since April, allowing an expanded search. The body was found wedged under a boulder.
