Eagle Point shooting threat deemed not credible

Eagle Point High School students will attend school as usual Friday after school district officials and local law enforcement determined a threat written on a bathroom stall to be not credible.

“School will go on as normal on Friday,” said Allen Barber, human resources director for Eagle Point School District.

The threat was written in a girls’ bathroom stall: “Shoot everyone at Eaglepoint (sic) high School 10 19 18.” The writer has not yet been identified.

Eagle Point High School Principal Andrew Kovach sent parents an email about the threat late Tuesday afternoon, including encouragement for parents to talk with their children about what they might know about the threat.

Officer Michael Anselmi with the Eagle Point Police Department said the agency had received multiple calls from concerned parents Wednesday morning.

Anselmi, who was the district’s school resource officer from 2007 to 2017, said that the school district’s threat investigation involved examining social media and talking to people with any further knowledge of the threat. Sometimes students “out” themselves on social media by bragging about the disruption their threat caused, he said.

“It’s tedious, it’s time consuming,” he said of investigations, “but we do have to take them seriously.”
