Prekindergarten offered for low-income students

The Oregon Child Development Coalition will offer prekindergarten classes in Ashland for low-income students starting next year.

This state-funded program provides a preschool educational opportunity for low-income children 3 to 5 years old.

Locally, the program will be offered from 7:45 to 11:45 a.m. Monday through Thursday at the old Briscoe School, 265 N. Main in Ashland. The coalition offers transportation at community stops in many parts of Jackson County. The program will begin Jan. 12, 2009, and there will be room for 54 children.

The Oregon Child Development Coalition serves more than 2,600 children in the State of Oregon. In Jackson County, the coalition currently administers the Migrant Head Start program.

The prekindergarten program is free to all low income children and no agricultural work is required to qualify.

Appointments for applications are being taken now. Call 488-6919 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and ask to enroll in Oregon prekindergarten.
