Sadie Shelton named Kiwanis student of the month for November

The Kiwanis Club of Ashland has recognized Sadie Shelton as its November Student of the Month. Shelton is the daughter of Lisa and Tony Shelton.

Shelton maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.978. She has received the following honors and awards: National Honor Society (two years), Math Honor Society (two years), Honor Roll (four years), Outstanding English, Spanish I and Spanish II Student, Oregon Dairy Farmer's Top 10 Academic Award, and State Honor Band.

Shelton's array of extracurricular activities during her four-year AHS career includes managing editor and writer for the Rogue News, editor in chief of the Crimson Claw, an AHS literary magazine, and leadership positions in Global Citizen Corps, AHS Key Club, including lieutenant governor of five clubs in the valley, Model United Nations, National Honor Society, Interact Club, and the Math Honor Society.

She was also a Fresh Start counselor, Grizzly Camp counselor and volunteer at the North Mountain Park Nature Center.

Shelton has been involved in athletics, including JV volleyball, varsity volleyball, club volleyball, and varsity golf. Her hobby interests include music (piano, cello and French horn), reading, playing tennis and various outdoor activities.

Shelton's future interest is biology research or genetic engineering at either Brown University or Boston College.

A senior from the Ashland High School is honored each month during the school year. Each student receives an award certificate and a $100 savings bond. In May, two of the nine monthly winners for the current school year will be further honored with a $1,000 Tommy Laird Kiwanis College Scholarship.
