SOU offers classes for high school students

High school students facing limited class choices due to state budget cuts have another option: enroll early in college.

Southern Oregon University’s early entry program is offered for high school juniors and seniors and includes 100- and 200-level courses. Students attend classes at SOU’s campuses in Ashland and Medford.

“If they can't get the classes they want at their high school, they could get a jump start on college and take classes at SOU,” said SOU Director of Pre-College and Youth Programs Carol Jensen. “Even better, they can enroll for a discount.”

High school students will be charged $60 per credit, up to 60 percent off the regular tuition rate, Jensen said.

Jensen said the most popular areas of study for high school students enrolled at SOU are math and foreign languages.

High school students intending to take the SAT for college entry can attend SAT prep classes in both Ashland and Medford beginning in October.

The 8-session program is offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and costs $169. For more information, visit Registration for fall non-credit classes is now underway.
