A forum on Ballot Measure 97 sponsored by the Ashland Chamber of Commerce is set for noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at the Ashland Community Center, 59 Winburn Way.
Measure 97 would levy a 2.5 percent gross receipts tax on "C" corporations on all Oregon sales in excess of $25 million. C corporations are those that pay their own taxes, rather than the owners being taxed. That's about 1,000 companies out of 400,000 doing business in the state. The tax would raise an estimated $3 billion year.
Two presenters — a ballot measure opponent from the Oregon State Chamber of Commerce and a proponent from the Yes on Measure 97 campaign — will each present their respective information, followed by time for questions and answers.
The chamber also sponsored videotaped legislative candidate forums that can be viewed online at www.ashlandchamber.com/LegislativeForums.
The taped forums include candidates for Ashland City Council positions 1, 3 and 5, for Ashland mayor, Jackson County commissioner Position 2, state senator Dist. 3 and state representative Dist. 5.
Questions for the forums were formulated by the chamber's executive committee and sent to candidates in advance. The discussion was chaired by Ashland Chamber Legislative Chair Cindy Bernard and moderated by Board Members Jac Nickels, Mary Gardiner and Sheila Cough. They were filmed at the SOU Digital Media Center — RVTV Studios.
The forums will also be available on the RVTV website (rvtv.sou.edu or roguetv.peg.tv) through Election Day, Nov. 8.
ROKU users can watch the forums by adding the RVTV channel - https://channelstore.roku.com/details/93357/rogue-valley-television or search for Rogue Valley on the ROKU channels site.
