Part of East Main to close for culvert replacement

Ashland’s East Main Street between Walker Avenue and Clay Street will be closed Wednesday through Friday, March 21-23, so an old culvert underneat the road can be replaced, the Jackson County roads department announced Tuesday.
The closure period begins at 7 a.m. Wednesday. Due to the size of the project the roadway will be closed to through traffic completely day and night throughout the duration of the project.
Emergency services have been notified and a signed detour will be in place to guide motorists who are unfamiliar with the area. Reopening of the roadway to traffic is expected Friday afternoon.
A full closure is needed due to the size of the project with trenches across the roadway exceeding typical distances which can be spanned with steel plates. Closing the roadway also allows work to be completed more quickly by working on the entire roadway width at once, rather than doing half the roadway at a time.
Local motorists are encouraged to avoid the work area by using alternate routes, including Walker Avenue, Tolman Creek Road, Clay Street and Highway 66.
