Curtis Paul Georgeson

Curtis Paul Georgeson, 76, of Medford, Ore., passed away peacefully after a long illness on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Three Rivers Convalescent Home in Medford. He was born July 13, 1934.

Curt grew up in Tekemah, Neb., and graduated from Tekamah High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, and graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1959. Curt worked for 31 years with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and retired in 1997.

Curt was a member of Kiwanis from 1980 to 2005. He served as a council member, and later mayor, of Waverly, Neb., from 1990 to 1996. After moving to Phoenix Ore., he served as a city council member from 1999 to 2002, after being elected as a write-in candidate.

Curt was proud to serve on the Board of Directors for Parents Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, in Lincoln, Neb. and Ashland, Ore. He was also on the Board of Directors of ABDIL-ELLIS Center, in Ashland, Ore.

Curt came from a large family. He is survived by his wife, Barb Georgeson; children, Terry Georgeson, of El Cerrito, Calif., Dan Georgeson, of Vancouver, Wash., and Pam Johnson, of Waverly, Neb.; sisters, Donna Ripley, of Lincoln, Neb., Arlene Long, of San Diego, Calif., and Jan Winkelhofer, of Hollywood, Calif.; sister-in-law, Sharri Georgeson, of Omaha, Neb.; and brother, John Georgeson, and wife, Peggy, of Omaha, Neb.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was loved by all, and remembered as a kind, loving, and tolerant man.

A memorial service will be held Friday, May 13, 2011, 3:00 p.m., at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 717 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland, Ore.

Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, of Medford, Ore., is in care of arrangements.
