February 9, 1976 - May 12, 2018
James Orin Torrey passed away unexpectedly and all too soon on Saturday, May 12, 2018. Jim was a man who felt strongly about all forms of injustice towards people, pets, wildlife, and the Earth. Jim was born in Longview, Washington on February 9, 1976 to Ron and Pam Torrey. His first home was in Astoria, Oregon, and we moved to Central Point the following year.
Jim began playing both soccer and basketball at a young age and continued to play through high school and into college. He was an avid fan of Oregon State sports and the Portland Trailblazers. As a child, he became interested in birds, tropical fish, and many other pets. He would read, interview people, and learn all that he could about his current passion. Our home was soon filled with an ever-expanding variety of critters.
Jim attended Central Point schools and then continued his education at SOU. His professional life began in banking, where he soon became a bank manager at several local institutions. Jim's knack for connecting with people from all walks of life led to his serving on the board of United Way. He passionately believed all people had a right to live in dignity and peace. His political and personal values led him to support candidates and laws that furthered those ideals and allowed everyone an opportunity to succeed.
Jim will be dearly missed by his parents; his brother, Eric; and his sister, Alina. He was fortunate to have many friends who shared both his joys and his sorrows. A "Celebration of Life" will be held at noon Saturday, May 26, 2018. Please join us at Conger--Morris in Central Point.
Any donations may be sent to the Humane Society.
Jim, you are in our hearts forever and always.
