Jesse Golden

May 16, 1984 - September 8, 2010

Jesse Golden was born at home near Georgetown, Washington, DC, on May 16, 1984. He died September 8, 2010, at age 26. Jesse lived briefly on the Navajo reservation in Arizona, moved to San Diego, Calif., for two years, then as a small child moved to Oregon, where he spent his remaining years.

Jesse attended Ashland schools, graduating from Ashland High School in 2002. He studied architecture at the University of Oregon until 2009, lacking only a few credits for graduation and, most recently, worked both as a night clerk at the Phoenix Inn and a waiter at the Keystone Caf.

Exposed to backpacking at an early age, Jesse was an enthusiastic outdoorsman, enjoying backpacking and horse packing into wilderness areas, horseback riding, and fishing throughout his life. Jesse was an avid and creative artist, gardener, and a dedicated friend who sincerely cared about and helped others.

Jesse is survived by his father, Julian Golden, of Ashland, Ore.; mother, Linda Jean Hanna, of Grotten Long Point, Conn.; two sisters, Lesley Aldridge and Melody Miick Hanna; brother, Galen Lee Golden Hayes; and his beloved horse, Lightning, who was present at Jesse's burial, a ceremony blessed by the presence of a large community of friends. The family is deeply grateful to them. Contributions may be sent to the Jesse Golden Memorial Fund at Umpqua Bank.
