Fering Erwin, Ret.

Alan F. Erwin, 95, of Medford, Ore,, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center. He was born August 20, 1917 in Portland, Ore., to Peter and Tilda Erwin.

Alan graduated with a BS (Mechanical Engineering) from UC Berkeley, Tau Beta Pi, in 1939. He joined the United States Air Force and served from 1940 to 1946 and 1950 to 1967, receiving an honorable discharge for both periods of service. His other training included: Aircraft controller, 1951; ATI Investigation, 1952; Attache Course, U.S. Army Strategic Intelligence School, 1959; AFIT (Japanese language) Yale institute of Foreign Languages, 1960; EWI Aerojet General Corp. (Astronautics & Space Vehicles) 1964; MA (German language) American University, 1968.

Alan served in both WW II and the Korean War. He also served as Military Attache to the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, Japan from 1960 1964. Over the course of his military service he received six Bronze Stars for distinguished service.

Alan was survived by his wife Myra and daughter Nancy. He was a beloved husband and a cherished father. No funeral service is planned. His ashes will be scattered in a private ceremony.
