Forum to detail 'Big Oil' attempt to block climate bill

A panel will discuss the oil industry's influence on state government during "Dirty Energy & Dirty Money" forum hosted by Common Cause Oregon on Thursday evening in Ashland.

The free public forum offers information about how the oil industry and its allies used campaign contributions, lobbying contracts and "dark money" attack ads to try and block a major bill dealing with climate change in a recent legislative session.

Speakers include state Rep. Peter Buckley, David Hyde from Move to Amend, Daniel Lewkow from Common Cause Oregon, Lee Lull from Southern Oregon Climate Action Now and Jeff Golden from Immense Possibilities on Southern Oregon Public Television.

Doors to the Ashland event open at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 23,  at the Rogue Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 87 Fourth St., Ashland. The forum runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The Ashland event is one of six similar events organized by Common Cause in cooperation with more than 34 other organizations around Oregon. Events in Salem Eugene and Bend have already happened. After Ashland, other events will be held in Portland on June 27 and Beaverton on June 29. For more information, go to www.commoncause.org/states/oregon.
