Preschool Puppet Theatre: See what Brenda Bear and friends are up to at 10:30 a.m. the second Friday of every month at North Mountain Park Nature Center, 620 N. Mountain Ave., Ashland. Admission is $6. A brief environmental lesson will be followed by the puppet show and playtime. A snack and craft or activity will follow. No late seating is allowed.
Science Lecture: Brian Stonelake, Southern Oregon University Senior Instructor of Mathematics, will present “Hyperoperation Absurdity,” from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Friday, April 13, in Room 151 in the Science Building on the SOU campus, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. In this talk, Stonelake will discuss hyperoperations, which is a sequence of operations for compounding numbers that increase in growth iteratively without assuming any material prerequisite math knowledge. Ashland International Folk Dancers: The group meets Fridays at the Ashland Community Center, 59 Winburn Way, to perform dances from Eastern and Western Europe, Greece, Scandinavia, Israel, Turkey and the Middle East. The Gryphon Trio: The violin, cello and piano trio, along with soprano Patricia O’Callaghan, will present “Broken Hearts and Madmen,” a program of music by Astor Piazzola, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits and Jelly Roll Morton, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 13, in the Music Recital Hall, 405 S. Mountain Ave., at Southern Oregon University in Ashland. The trio will perform music by Beethoven, Wijeratne and Mendelssohn, without O’Callaghan, at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 14, in the music hall. Presentation: Local artist Kaki Shields will present “Altered Books,” showing the art she creates using discarded books at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at the Ashland library, 410 Siskiyou Blvd. Following the presentation, Shields will show attendees how to create their own works of art.
