Ginny Cotton shot a 91 to place 23rd overall, leading Ashland High to a sixth-place team finish in the coed Carlton P. Hoberg Memorial golf tournament Monday at Lake Shastina Resort in California.
Two boys and four girls — the only girls in the tournament — competed for the Grizzlies, who also received solid performances from senior Alex Savage and freshman Sam Gander in the 12-team tournament.
Savage shot a 96 and Gander a 97 to complete the Grizzlies' top three. Also for Ashland, freshman Emily Robinson shot a 102 and junior Sophia Rooney a 107.
The Hoberg Memorial marked the first time Ashland has entered girls into an all-boys golf tournament. In California, the boys golf season is in the spring while the girls play in the fall.
