Free (and smoke-free) indoor kids events offered

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has extended an air quality advisory for Jackson and surrounding counties until Friday, Aug. 10. The air quality has been wavering between unhealthy and very unhealthy in Ashland. Because kids are more susceptible to harmful smoke, Northwest Nature Shop in Ashland, 154 Oak St., is offering free kid-friendly activities this week in its air-conditioned building.

From 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, kids can make and decorate animal masks. The activity is recommended for ages 4-10, but all ages are welcome.

From 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, kids can watch local Rubik’s Cube experts solve the puzzle in 30 seconds, then participate in a workshop where they’ll learn some basic tricks and tips. Participants can bring their own Rubik’s Cube or purchase one at the workshop.

No registration is required. For more information go to www.northwestnatureshop/events or call Northwest Nature Shop at 541-482-3241.
