JoCo man accused of molesting boy

A Merlin man faces felony charges accusing him of molesting a boy, but Oregon State Police believe more victims could be out there.

Mark Christopher Boothe, 50, of the 1600 block of Crow Road, faces four counts each of first-degree sodomy and first-degree sexual abuse, alleging he inappropriately touched a 9-year-old victim’s genitals and subjected the child to oral sexual contact on multiple occasions.

The Josephine County District Attorney’s office says the alleged abuses occurred between Dec. 17, 2013, and the date of his arrest, Dec. 17 of this year, according to court filings in Josephine County Circuit Court. Documents filed in the case by OSP, however, say the abuses occurred only between April and October of this year.

The victim reportedly disclosed to his mother that he was molested earlier this month, according to an affidavit filed by police, and Boothe allegedly made admissions to police about the abuses after his arrest Monday.

Crow remained held Wednesday in the Josephine County Jail on $750,000 bail.

Any victims of Boothe are asked to call OSP’s Southern Command Center at 1-800-442-2068, and ask for detective Eve Thornton.

Boothe has lived in the Merlin area since 1992, according to police.
