Nine programs representing Southern Oregon University athletics have been recognized as NAIA Scholar Teams for the 2015-16 school year, the national office announced, marking the highest total in department history.
To be considered for the honor, a team must have a combined grade-point average of 3.0 or better for the academic year.
SOU made the cut with its volleyball (3.58 GPA), women's soccer (3.41), men's basketball (3.40), women's basketball (3.32), men's cross country (3.30), women's cross country (3.26), softball (3.25), women's track and field (3.21) and men's track and field (3.13) teams.
The Raider volleyball team toted the department's highest GPA for the second year in a row and ranked 13th among all NAIA volleyball teams.
The Raider men's basketball team ranked fourth among all NAIA division II men's basketball programs, hitting 3.4 or better for the third year in a row. In 2014-15 it ranked second in GPA, and it 2013-14 it ranked first.
SOU's women's soccer team was also above a 3.4 for the third straight season.
The top-four GPAs in the NAIA belonged to women's golf programs, led by Missouri Baptist, the NAIA Scholar Team of the Year, which had a 3.95.
