The Ashland Rotary Centennial Ice Rink officially opens for the season with the annual First Frost celebration Saturday, Nov. 17.

The event runs from 5-10 p.m. at 95 Winburn Way across from the Lithia Park playground.

Opening day festivities include such family activities as:

Southern Oregon Adult Hockey Association exhibit at 2:30 p.m.;

Early bird, family friendly, discount skating from 5-7 p.m.;

A figure skating performance at 7 p.m.; and

A live DJ and recreational skating from 7:30-10 p.m.

Rink mascot Chilly the Snowman and friends are expected to make an appearance.

Representatives from the Toys for Tots gift drive will accept donations. They ask attendees to bring new, unwrapped toys which will go to the less fortunate children of Southern Oregon later in the season.

Skate rentals are available in sizes ranging from toddler size 9 up to men’s size 15.

Free skate trainers are available during some sessions.

Skaters are advised to come prepared because there are no changing rooms.

Hot chocolate, coffee and snacks are available for purchase.

A soft opening is set for Thursday, Nov. 15.
