U.N. Peace Day events include Chase Iron Eyes talk

In honor of United Nations Day, the U.N. Club at Southern Oregon University is hosting a variety of educational events:

• Meet the U.N. Club on U.N. day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, in the Stevenson Union lobby.

• More information about the U.N. Club and what it does for SOU, as well as two guest speakers, are featured from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, in the third floor Meese Room of the Hannon Library. Light refreshments will be served. Talks by “State of the World According to the U.N.” program features speaker Russy Sumariwalla start at 4 p.m. and by Dr. Jim Phillips on “Honduras in Dangerous Times” at 5 p.m.

• Chase Iron Eyes of the Standing Rock Sioux and Lakota tribes will speak on indigenous people changing the world today. His presentation, titled “Sustaining the Sacred 2018” will take place during a gathering from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, in the third floor Meese Room of the Hannon Library. This discussion will focus on how water protectors defend water rights.
