Voter turnout hits 60 percent

Voter turnout has hit 60 percent with a little less than five hours left to go before the 8 p.m. deadline to drop ballots off.

Chris Walker, Jackson County clerk, said 90,000 ballots, or 58.4 percent of the total, have been cast as of 3 p.m. today.

Walker has predicted voter turnout will top 70 percent once all ballots have been cast.

Democrats have sent in 73 percent of their ballots, and Republicans are at 70.6 percent.

Nonaffiliated voters, or those who don't belong to a political party, have sent in 33.6 percent of votes, while all other parties have sent in 56 percent of their total.
