Community leader Reeve Hennion succumbs to brain cancer

Reeve Hennion, the unofficial mayor of the tiny community of Buncom and a Rogue Valley community leader, has died after a three-year battle with brain cancer.

"He was a community civic leader," said Don Greene, vice chairman of the Jackson County Planning Commission, which Hennion chaired. "He was a servant, too, such a humble guy. He did everything with grace and kindness."

Hennion died Sunday night after a battle with glioblastoma multiforme, a highly aggressive form of cancer.

Green said he marvelled at the attentiveness and dedication of his friend, who missed only two meetings of the commission during his illness.

Hennion is a retired telecommunications company owner who served on the boards of the American Planning Association's Public Officials Committee, the Rogue Valley Area Commission on Transportation and Rogue Community College Foundation, according to information about him on the county Web site.

Hennion is survived by his wife, Lyn, and two sons.
