United Way seeks donations

The annual fundraising campaign of United Way of Jackson County concludes next week, and officials are hoping the community will once again dig deep during this final push to help the organization meet its goal.

As of late this week, the campaign had raised $507,500, or 58 percent of its $875,000 goal. It started Sept. 10.

The money collected by United Way funds 47 programs run by 36 member agencies. In human terms, the agency helps those who struggle with poverty, addiction, domestic violence, disabilities or other hardships.

According to charitynavigator.org, which rates charitable organizations, nine out of 10 charities nationwide spend only 65 cents of every dollar on programs.

United Way Director Dee Anne Everson said 81 cents out of every local dollar collected for United Way is spent in direct support for services and programs that help people in need in Jackson County.
