Ani DiFranco

Jefferson Public Radio will present Ani DiFranco in concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at the Craterian Ginger Rogers Theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford.

DiFranco released her first recording in 1990. Since then she has recorded 20 albums which have sold more than 4 million copies. Determining that the mainstream record business had nothing to offer that she couldn't provide herself, DiFranco established Righteous Babe Records in her hometown of Buffalo, New York.

Righteous Babe Records also includes recordings from an eclectic roster of artists.

Known for her socially relevant lyrics, signature percussive finger picking guitar style and expressive vocals, DiFranco has collaborated with Prince, Cyndi Lauper, Dar Williams, Bruce Cockburn, John Gorka and Maceo Parker on their albums; produced recordings by Dan Bern, Utah Phillips and Janis Ian among others; performed orchestral versions of her music with the Buffalo Philharmonic; and had her songs covered by Dave Matthews and Chuck D.

For the last several years DiFranco and her manager Scot Fisher have been renovating a long-neglected landmark building in downtown Buffalo.

A $10 million renovation transformed it into a remarkable venue for the performing and visual arts. Renamed Babeville, it is now a state-of-the-art performance space

and contemporary arts center, as well as the headquarters of Righteous Babe Records.

Tickets are $40 and $44 and are available online at or by phone at 779-3000.
