The Oregon Shakespeare Festival, 15 S. Pioneer St., Ashland, will hold auditions for children for the 2008 season from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29. Eleven roles for children 10 to 17, and possibly mature 8-or 9-year olds, are to be filled.

OSF is interested in casting black, Asian, Latino and white children. In addition, OSF needs to cast a middle-aged Latino man and a Latino woman for non-speaking roles in "A View from the Bridge."

Copies of scenes to be read will be available in advance.

Rogue Community College's Theatre Department in Medford will produce Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice" at The Warehouse on Bartlett in the Spring. Auditions will be held in December, rehearsals will begin in January.

Everyone cast will sign up for the acting class, which meets Wednesdays from 2 to 5 p.m. Further rehearsals will be arranged.

Rogue Opera and Southern Oregon University Music Department will hold auditions for 15 singers for their third annual "Opera Work Shop with Voices from the Valley Concerts" at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at SOU Music Department's Choir Room.

Opera Workshop is a nine-week training program for singers who will be featured in two "Voices from the Valley~Opera Scenes Concerts" on Friday, March 7, at Southern Oregon University Music Recital Hall, Ashland, and Sunday, March 9, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Medford.

Professionals should prepare two arias. An accompanist will be provided. Students may sing one aria or an art song. To schedule an audition e-mail, or call 608-6400.
