Candye Kane

California blues diva Candye Kane, also "the toughest girl alive," sings, shouts and croons messages of hope and empowerment to her fans.

Kane, raised in a dysfunctional, blue-collar family in Los Angeles, was a mother on welfare, pinup girl and battered wife — all before she was 25 years old.

Despite obstacles, Kane shows the stuff she's made of, and in the past few years, has performed worldwide, released an award-winning album, been nominated for five National Blues Foundation awards, and won 10 San Diego Music Awards while battling pancreatic cancer.

According to Downbeat Magazine, "This tough cookie wails with a rousing confidence, affirmation of identity, the courage of her convictions and wisdom beyond her years."

Kane will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at Alex's Plaza Restaurant and Bar, 35 N. Main St., Ashland. The cover charge is $5. Call 541-482-8818 or see www.candyekane.com.
