Classical guitar concert

David Rogers and Matt Dorris will present an afternoon of classical and eclectic guitar solos and duets at — p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at the First Congregational Church, 717 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland.

The concert will team up Rogers with his former student and current Boulder, Colo., resident Dorris. Featured on the program will be popular Brazilian music by Celso Machado, ragtime music, classical duets, as well as original music by Rogers.

There will be performances on two historic and rare guitars from Southern Oregon University's Schuman Collection of Musical Instruments.

Rogers fuses jazz, classical, early, and world music elements into his work. His solo and ensemble performances have been broadcast on American National Public Radio and Bayrische Rundfunk.

Rogers has given recitals and conducted master classes throughout North America, including performances and classes at the San Francisco Conservatory, the University of Southern California and The Interlochen National Arts Camp.

Dorris graduated from SOU in 2004 with a bachelors degree in music performance. A veteran of the musical theater scene in Southern Oregon, Dorris has played electric guitar and bass for shows such as "Grease," "Little Shop of Horrors" and "Godspell."
