St. Clair Productions will present singer/songwriter Freebo in concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at Rogue Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 87 Fourth St., Ashland. Jeff Pevar and Inger Jorgensen will open the evening and then join Freebo later on.

Freebo's rock 'n' roll career ranges from bass player/band member with Bonnie Raitt for a decade to studio sessions and tours with artists ranging from John Mayall, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Maria Muldaur and Ringo Starr, to TV appearances on "Saturday Night Live," "Midnight Special" and "Muppets Tonight," as well as tuba performances with Dr. John and the legendary Spinal Tap.

Freebo has evolved into a singer/songwriter.

His songs span styles from folk, blues, and country to RB, reggae and rock 'n' roll, and incorporate themes of love, struggle, triumph, peace and the journey of life. His live performances are mainly on acoustic guitar.

Freebo has recorded three solo CDs: 1999's "The End Of The Beginning," 2002's "Dog People" (songs about the human/canine connection), and his latest CD, released in 2005, "Before The Separation."

"Before the Separation" was nominated in five categories in the Just Plain Folk Awards. In addition, Freebo had two songs in the top 10 of the International Songwriting Competition and has won the South Florida Folk Festival Songwriting Competition.

According to Jonathan Widran in Music Connection, LA, "The veteran fretless bassist, who has been a sideman for everyone from Bonnie Raitt and John Mayall to Crosby, Stills and Nash, evolves into a powerful voice of social consciousness on his third outing as a singer/songwriter. Tapping into the zeitgeist of post-millennial America, Freebo draws on his love of blues, rock, soul and the spirit of classic folk music to create a provocative and haunting landscape which beautifully balances biting criticism, strong patriotism and a sense of whimsical optimism."

Bill Thames in Shake Magazine, Nashville, said: "The overall texture of 'Before The Separation' is very soulful, introspective, heartfelt, and thoughtful. Listening to the lyrics, one can almost feel the itch that Freebo needed to scratch as he penned those songs. The CD is passionately crafted and enthusiastically sung, and Freebo enlisted the talents

of many old friends in its recording. 'Before The Separation' deftly transports the listener into the eye of a hurricane to quietly observe, while Freebo calmly describes the spiritual storm that rages on all sides."

Freebo is one of this year's judges for the Indie International

Songwriting Contest.

He passes on what he has learned through teaching creativity and songwriting workshops throughout the United States.
