Southern Oregon University jazz ensemble: A concert featuring music by jazz pianist and SOU music instructor Martin Behnke and his ensemble — along with two university-based combos directed by adjunct faculty member Steve Davidson — will be presented at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, in the Music Recital Hall on the SOU campus, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. A new composition by Behnke, "A Song for Robin," will debut at the concert. General seating is $5; free for students. Jefferson State Choral Coalition: Under the direction of Kirby Shaw, the jazz choir will present "Just Jazz," a program of standards, blues, '40s swing, '50s rock, a cappella ballads and gospel at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, in the Music Recital Hall on the Southern Oregon University campus, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. Christmas with The Trail Band: Sampling musical styles of bluegrass, boogie woogie, gospel, folk and Dixieland jazz, The Trail Band will offer a mix of traditional hymns and carols, contemporary favorites and novelties and heartwarming stories at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at the Ginger Rogers Craterian Theater, 23 S. The Siskiyou Singers: Conductor Mark Reppert will lead the community singing group in three concerts of festive holiday music. "In Sweet Joy," will feature Francis Poulenc's "Gloria" with a solo by soprano Ellie Holt-Murray, and other works will include Renaissance pieces by Sweelinck, Palestrina and Mouton, along with international carols, Hebrew dances and spiritual music. ROGUE OPERA: "A Holiday Wishes Concert," a program of holiday songs, opera and musical theater highlights, will be presented at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, in the Music Recital Hall on the Southern Oregon University campus, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. Singers Chris Carwithen, Dan Gibbs, Brett Aakre, Amanda Klein, Karli Krueger and Jennifer Matsuura will perform their favorite numbers. The concert will conclude with a sing-along.
