Heather Hutton in concert

Local singer/songwriter Heather Hutton has just released a new CD of original music, "Closing the Divide." She and some of her musician friends will celebrate the occasion with a CD release concert and celebration at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at the Ashland Community Center, 59 Winburn Way, Ashland. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.

Hutton will be joined by Richard Williams, David Gabriel, Datta Groover and Mark DeGroft. Hutton lives just outside Talent and has been teaching music in various public schools, singing original songs and offering private voice coaching and music ministry.

"Closing the Divide" features Hutton on vocals, piano and violin in a variety of musical styles, including traces of Celtic, pop, folk and Middle Eastern sounds. Williams accompanies on piano, 6- and 12-string Spanish and electric guitars, fretless bass, sarod, bouzouki, shakuhachi, synthesizer and percussion. Gabriel plays drums and he and Derocher provide backing vocals. Aletha Nowitzky plays bodhran and provides bird whistles; Ryan Weidner is on percussion; Christopher of the Wolves plays didgeridoo; and Sophia Frost provides giggles on one of the songs.

Neil Anderson, former vice president of CBS Records and BMI, said: "Heather Hutton's CD is pure joy &

an experience not to be missed. Her moving voice seems to come from another dimension, and yet, it is grounded in the beauty of this earth. The same is true of Heather's songs. They inspire you, touch you, and you are not the same person after hearing them. Give yourself and your friends a gift &

get this CD."

Admission is $5 at the door. CDs will be available at the event.
