Kirtana: 'Falling Awake'

Singer/songwriter Kirtana will return to Ashland to perform "An Evening of Contemporary Sacred Songs."

Accompanying herself on guitar or ukulele, Kirtana will present a concert of original music at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 13, at Havurah Shir Hadash, 185 North Mountain Ave., Ashland.

Kirtana's music has been used in the workshops and meetings of such contemporary teachers as Eckhart Tolle, Bryon Katie, Adyashanti, and Gangaji.

The Ashland concert will feature songs from Kirtana's sixth and most-recent CD, "Falling Awake."

It will follow directly on her "Falling Awake Tour" of northern Europe, which featured performances in London, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Stockholm.

Kirtana has performed in Ashland on several occasions, each time to larger and larger audiences.

Steve Ryals of New Age Retailer wrote: "Kirtana's dusky, delicate voice seems hard-wired to her heart. Expressing even the subtlest of emotions, her singing is at once sensuous and sublime, celebrating the inarticulate speech of the heart"&

166; She is a Rumi for our times."

Cori Wardle of New Renaissance Bookshop wrote: "Through her gentle acoustical guitar and angelic alto voice, she asks the big questions, ponders the wonders and expresses her joy in the Divine. She conveys the love of an all-permeating, ever-present energy that exists within and surrounds all".

Born and raised in a small coastal town in Maine, Kirtana has been playing the guitar and writing songs since she was 11.

For the last 20 years she has lived on the central coast of California.

Tickets are $15, and are available at Soundpeace in Ashland and One World in Medford.
