Merkley to speak at Democratic National Convention

Oregon House Speaker Jeff Merkley is one of four Democratic Senate recruits tapped for a speaking slot at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Merkley is to share the podium with Representatives Tom Allen of Maine and Tom Udall of New Mexico, and former New Hampshire Governor Jeanne Shaheen.

The four will speak on Wednesday, Aug. 27, about 6:30 p.m.

A handful of other Democratic Senate recruits are skipping the convention. Minnesota's Democratic Senate hopeful, comedian Al Franken, was not offered a speaking slot.

Former Virginia Governor turned Senate candidate Mark Warner will give the keynote address Tuesday.
