Guitarist and composer Pavlo Simtikidis will perform a blend of Greek, flamenco, Latin and Balkan music wrapped in contemporary pop at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Rogue Theatre, 143 S.E. H St., Grants Pass. With a dozen records to his credit, his album “Pavlo” was certified gold in Canada. His albums “Fantasia” and “Trifecta,” the latter in collaboration with Triumph lead guitarist Rik Emmett, were nominated for Juno Awards. Rogue Valley Symphony: The symphony, conducted by Martin Majkut, will be joined by violist Roberto Díaz for a performance of a new concerto by Syrian-American composer Malek Jandali at the second masterworks concert of RVS’ season. Shows are set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, in the Music Recital Hall, 450 S. Mountain Ave., at Southern Oregon University in Ashland; 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Craterian Theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford; and 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Performing Arts Center, 830 N.E. Ninth St., Grants Pass. The program also will include Johannes Brahms’ Tragic Overture and Ludwig von Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4. Majkut will give pre-concert talks one hour before the performances. Rogue Valley Symphonic Band: The community band, conducted by Dan Kocurek, will kick off its 30th season with “Deathly Hallows,” a program of Halloween-themed music that will include “In the Hall of the Mountain King” by Edvard Grieg; “Scheherezade” by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov; “Ride of the Valkyries” by Richard Wagner; “Harry Potter Symphonic Suite” by John Williams; David Maslanka’s “Alex and the Phantom Band” and more. The show is set for 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, in the Music Recital Hall, 450 S. Mountain Ave., at Southern Oregon University in Ashland. RVSB will partner with Paddington Station and Treehouse Books to create a Harry Potter Extravaganza filled with games, prizes and decorations for kids at 6 p.m. A costume contest for kids will be held during intermission. U.S. Army Field Band & Soldiers Chorus: The band and choir will perform “America the Beautiful” and other patriotic songs at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at Central Medford High School, 815 S. Oakdale Ave. The program includes marches and patriotic favorites, orchestral masterworks, new works for band, a cappella vocal arrangements, Broadway musicals and opera.
