See 2010 out with a New Year's Eve bash

New Year's Eve is a time to celebrate new beginnings. But before making that list of resolutions, send 2010 out with a bang. Here's a list of parties and celebrations set for Friday, Dec. 31:

A ROCKIN' REGGAE NEW YEAR'S BASH is set for Friday and Saturday, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, at the Medford Armory, 1701 S. Pacific Highway, Medford. Local comedian Carl Lee kicks off each night's show with lots of laughs. Friday's bill will include Living on Dreams Band, the Frankie Hernandez Band, Marko with Monk and Ras Cricket, Indubious with Alcyon Massive and Babylon Saints. Aerial dance troupe The Curtain Climbers also will perform, and a fire-knife dance by Sonny Kanahele tops off the first night. Doors will open at 7 p.m., and the show will go until 3 a.m. Saturday. The fun will start again at 6 p.m. Saturday with kid-friendly entertainment, including a bounce house and other activities. The day's live music lineup will feature Random Sound, The Rogue Suspects with Jeff Pevar, State of Jefferson, Babylon Saints, the Frankie Hernandez Band, Headwayte and 541 Syndicate. Festivities throughout both days include a laser light show, prize giveaways, a beer and wine garden and shuttle rides home. NEW YEAR'S EVE AT THE RED LION HOTEL, 200 N. Riverside Ave., Medford, will feature classic rock band Hot Gossip in the grand ballroom and rock band Red X in Characters Lounge. A dinner buffet will be offered from 7 to 9 p.m. in the ballroom. Music and dancing begin at 9 p.m., and there will be a champagne toast at midnight. Dinner and party tickets cost $35 or $65 per couple. Tickets cost $15 or $25 per couple for the dance parties only. All tickets include party favors and champagne toast. MEDFORD ELKS LODGE invites the public to attend its New Year's party in the Esquire Room of the lodge, 220 N. Central Ave. Cocktails will be available at 6 p.m., dinner will begin at 7:30 p.m. and spins for dancing by deejays Dan and Penny Nelson will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $25 or $40 per couple if purchased in advance. CAST OF CLOWNS AT APPLEGATE LODGE, the band of psychedelic tricksters — featuring guitarists Craig Wright and Jeff Pevar, drummer Greg Anton, bassist Damian Erskine and Hammond player Melvin Seals — will play Americana and jams at 8 p.m. at Applegate Lodge, 15100 Highway 238, Applegate.
