Ashland boys golf finishes fifth at Cascade Challenge

ROSEBURG — The Ashland boys golf team finished in a tie for fifth with St. Mary’s of Medford with a combined score of 372 at the Cascade Community Credit Union Challenge at Roseburg Country Club on Friday afternoon.
Bandon paced the 11-team field with a team score of 313. Roseburg (332), Grants Pass (347) and South Medford (353) rounded out the top four.
Ashland’s Sam Gander shot a team-low score of 88, as five Grizzlies finished within nine shots of one another on the day. Kadyn Kimbrough finished with a 92, Johnathan Ferreira had a 95, while both Kevin Iriawan and Gus Senn both recorded a 97.
Rylan Rogers rounded out Ashland’s group with a 109.
REDMOND 6, ASHLAND 2: At Ashland, No. 1 singles standout Rox Rogers and the No. 1 doubles team of Nur Shelton and Brayden Rogers were the lone Grizzlies to pick up a victory as Ashland lost to Redmond in Midwestern League action.
Rox Rogers won both of his sets by an identical 6-4 scoreline, while the lone victorious Ashland doubles pairing won in straight sets as well.
The Grizzlies look to get back to their winning ways when they host Springfield at 3 p.m. this afternoon.
