Ashland girls golf team shoots season-low round at Eagle Point

EAGLE POINT — Battling both the wind and the rain at Eagle Point Golf Club, the Ashland High girls golf team was able to record a season-low team score of 409 during Wednesday afternoon’s meet against Eagle Point, Crater and Bend.
The team score of 409 placed the Grizzlies in third place, behind Bend with a 356 and Crater’s team score of 379.
Ashland senior Ginny Cotton finished in fifth in the individual standings with a score of 93. Fellow senior Sophia Rooney shot a 102.
Sophomores Suttyn Barats (105), Luna Alvarez (109) and Rylee Schneider (140) rounded out the inidividual scoring for the Grizzlies.
Ashland’s regularly-scheduled trip to Running Y Ranch Golf Course in Klamath Falls today has been cancelled, meaning the Grizzlies will next play at Eugene Country Club on Monday morning.
A total of 21 Ashland High track and field athletes have been selected to compete in this weekend’s Oregon Relays, which get underway on Friday at Hayward Field in Eugene.
Grizzlies distance runners E.J. Holland, a sophomore, and senior Alex Franklin are two of the highest-seeded Ashland runners entering the weekend, seeded second and ninth, respectively, in the boys 1,500 meter run. Holland is also seeded seventh in the 3,000 meter run, while Franklin will also compete in the 800 and 3,000.
