Ashland's Oline named league MVP

Ashland High School’s Erik Oline was named the Class 5A Southern League boys water polo Most Valuable Player and was one of nine Grizzly boys or girls to earn first- or second-team all-star status, the league announced Monday.

Oline scored six goals in Ashland’s 10-7 playoff victory over Hood River last week, leading the Grizz boys to the state semifinals.

Also earning first-team all-star honors for the Ashland boys were Kyler Norman and Loden Donahoo, while Julian Ross made the second team. Ashland coach Natalie Del Carlo was named the Boys Coach of the Year.

Ashland’s Leilani Sukles, Amelia Zeve, Emma Kahn and Laurel Tappert picked up first-team nods for the Ashland girls team, which suffered a season-ending playoff loss last week. Ashland goalie Isabelle Nicolier was a second-team pick.

Cottage Grove’s Tori Raade was named the girls’ Southern League MVP.

The Ashland boys face Parkrose Friday for a spot in the 5A state championship game.
