Ashland’s Hanna Greenberg named Division III All-American in doubles

TEMPE, Ariz. — The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its list of All-Americans for all five divisions of collegiate tennis, and Ashland High grad and Whitman College (Wash.) senior Hanna Greenberg was named as a member of the doubles All-American team for NCAA Division III institutions.

The duo of Greenberg and Andrea Gu went 15-6 overall for Whitman this year, recording wins in all of their Northwest Conference matches as they helped the Blues upset Linfield College to earn a berth in the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Tournament.

Greenberg, who surpassed 100 career wins late in the 2018 season, was also named to the All-Northwest Conference second team for the second consecutive year back in April.

Both Greenberg and Gu played together as a doubles team prior to this year, going 4-2 overall during the 2016-2017 season. The change was made to partner together Greenberg and Gu this season, where they won their first six doubles matches together before running into a cold streak against larger schools like Division I Boise State and Division II Hawaii Pacific.

Starting in March, the Greenberg-Gu tandem went on a tear — including wins over the top pair from Linfield College to help claim the NWC championship, as well as a win in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championships against the University of Texas at Tyler.
