Frownfelter leads Grizz boys to four-way win

Chris Frownfelter won both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 backstroke to pace the Ashland boys in a four-way meet at Mingus Pool in Coos Bay on Friday.

Rachel Kahane placed first in the 100 butterfly and second in the 50 freestyle to lead the Ashland girls.

The AHS boys wound up at the top of the list in the final team standings with 148 points to second-place Marshfield’s 144, while the Grizz girls placed second to Marshfield.

Frownfelter won the 200 IM in 2:21.82 and the 100 backstroke in 1:02.48.

Baylor Wiggins won the 50 freestyle in 24.69 and placed second in the 100 freestyle in 55.02.

Also placing second for the Grizz boys were Ziji Donahoo in the 200 IM (2:25.65), Rileigh Orr in the 500 freestyle (6:01.64) and Hunter Oliver in both the 200 freestyle (2:04.93) and the 100 backstroke (1:02.88).

Kahane finished the 100 butterfly in 1 minute, 21.58 seconds and the 50 freestyle in 31.42 seconds. Also for the Ashland girls, Elizabeth Delange was the runner-up in the 100 freestyle (1:17.47) and Alex Westrick second in the 100 butterfly (1:24.23).

Boys Basketball

At Lake Tahoe, Nevada, Adam Jones hit seven 3-pointers and scored 23 points to lead Ashland to its first win of the season, 56-38, over Incline Village on the first day of the George Whittell tournament.

Jones, a senior guard, drained four treys in the first half to help the Grizzlies (1-2) take a commanding 31-12 lead.

Also for Ashland, KJ Pippa scored 13 points and Anthony Swanson 11.

Girls Basketball

At Murphy, Hidden Valley bolted to a 45-12 halftime lead and beat Ashland 84-16 in the nonleague game, improving to 3-0.

Hannah Hayes scored 19 and Kaylee Krusemark 15 for the Mustangs.

Ashland’s Mya Elder-Hammond had eight points, seven rebounds and three steals and Anna Barnes six rebounds as the Grizzlies dropped to 0-2.
